Charlie Thomas  Freeman
Charlie T. Freeman, of Las Cruces, New Mexico passed away on Thursday June 25, 2020 after reaching the age of 88 years old. After a long battle, he died peacefully within his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico with his Beloved wife Sharon along with his children and grandchildren.

Charlie was born on May 7, 1932 in Bennettsville, SC to Charlie S. Freeman and Mamie G. (Cope). He was the oldest of five children; Coming from humble beginnings and overcoming adversities at a young age.

As a young man he learned to work hard and take on whatever jobs were necessary to support the family. Including joining the U.S. Army at age 17, where he served from 1949 to 1966.

After retirement from the U.S. Army he went to work for White Sands Missile Range where he retired in 1988. In the Summer of 1980, he met the love of his life and married Sharon K. Freeman on January 16, 1981. They lived together in Las Cruces, New Mexico for forty years. The early times were difficult financially; Charlie and Sharon even borrowed five dollars for a marriage license.

Upon retirement from WSMR Charlie enjoyed traveling with his wife, enjoying the outdoors, camping, and fishing. During retirement Charlie stayed busy and was involved in: Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, New Mexico and National YHEC, 4-H Shooting Sports, Mesilla Valley Shotgun Club, National Rifle Association, American Legion, New Mexico Hunters Education, Southern New Mexico State Fair and still managed to have time for other hobbies.

Charlie took great pride in caring for, loving, and creating many lasting memories with his children Shelly and Michael, and two grandchildren Catelin and James Noe. Starting each of them at a young age Charlie cultivated a love for the outdoors and shooting sports. Charlie loved traveling with his family and treated every child he met as if they were his own.

He was a great mentor, a good friend, and always shared his kind and funny words of encouragement. Charlie enjoyed supporting Mayfield Football, as well as hunting and fishing with his friends Herbert Dauphin, and Tom Stiles. He was an amazing father and grandfather and always did the best he could to teach and guide the youth of Dona Ana County.

Charlie was a strong, proud, and good man. He will be loved and missed by many!

Charlie is survived. By his loving wife Sharon K. Freeman of Las Cruces, NM; Children, Shelly Noe (Scott) of Las Cruces, NM, Michael Dauphin of Albuquerque, NM, Margaret Labbe of Houston, TX, Judy Freeman of Houston, TX, and Elaine Frost of Las Cruces, NM. Grandchildren; Catelin Noe of El Paso, TX and James Noe of Las Cruces, NM, and Sister-in-Law Becky Freeman of Goose Creek, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mamie Freeman, his brothers David Freeman, and Paul Freeman, and sisters Mary Freeman and Margaret E. Jones.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Getz Funeral Home. Visitations will be from 1:00 - 2:00pm, with services following. Virtual viewing will be available. Charlie will be laid to rest at Ft. Bliss Army Post El Paso, TX.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in support of a 4-H Youth Scholarship in his name to promote the future of 4-H Shooting Sports.
