Shirley H. Stryker, 85, died on November 11, 2020 with her family by her side in Las Cruces, NM.

Shirley was born on May 13, 1935 in Beckville, Texas to Smutt and Ethel Harper. She had a sister, Mary Gillett and brother, Graham Harper. Shirley lived in Texas and California before finally settling in La Mesa, NM then in Las Cruces, NM. Shirley graduated from Las Cruces High in 1953 which was located on Alameda St. Shirley and her classmates remained friends and survivors reunited annually. After graduation, Shirley worked as a secretary at White Sands Missile Range in the NIKI program. Finally as an Administrative Assistant at New Mexico State University for 25 years until her retirement. In 1956, Shirley married Gerald Stryker and they remained together for 54 years until his death on January 2, 2011.
Shirley interests later in life consisted of reading, traveling with friends, playing the slot machines at Inn of the Mountain of Gods, and spending time with her family.
Shirley is survived by her three children, Ronna Promani, Russell Stryker (Karen), and Leslie Miller (Chris) all of Las Cruces NM; three grandchildren Owen Stryker and Shelby Stryker of Las Cruces NM, and Sydney Briggs (Cody) of Ogden, Utah; four great grandchildren Trinity Briggs, Faith Briggs, Levi Briggs, and Eve Briggs of Ogden, Utah; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother, husband Gerald, and son-in-law David Promani.
A private burial service will be held on November 20, 2020 at 10:00 am at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Due to Covid health restrictions, live streaming of burial is available www.getzcares.com. Public visitation will be held on November 19, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Getz Funeral Home located 1410 E. Bowman Ave, Las Cruces NM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to your favorite charity or to Encompass Hospice.
