Obituary for George Wolfe

George Wolfe
George Herman Wolfe was born December 25, 1940 in Lake, Mississippi. The family called him by his middle name Herman. Herman attended a small elementary school in Datil, NM. When he graduated from the 6thgrade one of the town’s famous residents attended the ceremony and gifted each student a signed copy of her book. The famous resident was Agnes Morley Cleaveland and the book…. No Life for a Lady. This book became a treasure to young Herman who was inspired by the author’s father to become a civil engineer. An inspiration that became reality in 1964 when Herman graduated from New Mexico A&M (now known as NMSU) with a degree in civil engineering. While at college, he met and dated a young woman who would later become his wife of 57 years Mary Ann Kriegel. Herman decided to enlist in the Army and was accepted into Officer Candidate School. In 1967 Lieutenant Herman Wolfe was sent to Vietnam with the 579th Engineering Battalion where he was stationed at Bien Hoa. Lieutenant Wolfe was awarded the Bronze Star for his distinguished and meritorious service in connection with ground operations against a hostile force. Returning to civilian life, the majority of his career was with the US Bureau of Reclamation. He retired in 1999 as the manager of Safety and Health Services for the Bureau of Reclamation. That same year he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the US Department of the Interior for his contributions to Safety and Health Policy for the Department. Throughout his life he remained active in his local church where he served most prominently as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He remained a committed Christian throughout his life and went to be with his Lord on April 10th, 2021.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents George Monroe Wolfe and Sadie Ruth (Gibbs) Wolfe, brother Allen Boyd Wolfe. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann (Kriegel) Wolfe; brother James Austin Wolfe and his wife Cindy Wolfe; brother David Lee Wolfe and his wife Betty Wolfe; daughter Aimee Kristen (Wolfe) Montgomery and her husband Lorne Daniel Montgomery; son Craig Ryan Wolfe; grandchildren Cameron Wolfe Montgomery and Anna Rose Montgomery; nephew and niece Brian Kelly Wolfe and Jenette Lee Wolfe; niece Jorene Ruth (Wolfe) Ha; nephew Brett Wolfe and his wife Lani Wolfe; nephew Travis Kriegel; nephew Jesse Kriegel and his wife Liz Kriegel.
Herman’s burial is scheduled for Monday, March 19, 2021 at 9:30 am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, TX. A memorial service will be held at 1st Baptist later in the month.
